Restoring Your Pool from Green to Clean

Green water is a common occurrence in the lifecycle of a pool. Many times it may occur because of lack of use throughout multiple seasons or it can even appear overnight during the hot nights of the Summer as algae grows and spreads throughout the water. Usually this process is caused by an imbalance or lack of chlorine in the water that fights off the growth of algae in your pool. Here’s how to get your pool back to it’s crystal clear state!

- Chlorine Shock Treatment: Adding chlorine (amount depends on the size of your pool) to your water kills the algae and should help with color and cloudiness of the pool. If you used enough the water should begin to turn a lighter shade of green after shocking it.

- Wait: After hitting your pool with a shock treatment you need to take time and wait with pump of your pool off. This will allow the algae to die and fall to the floor with no circulation, which could help some algae stay alive throughout the process.

- Vacuum algae to waste: It’s not ideal to throw water out of your pool, but after a bad algae infestation you should vacuum all of the dead algae on the floor of your pool straight out of the pool and past the filter.

- Filter the pool: After vacuuming the algae that were dead on the bottom of the pool you should run the water through the pool filter to work on getting out the algae that was floating in the water.

If you follow these steps you should be on your way to a clearer and cleaner pool in no time!
