The four main tests that are used are pH, chlorine, Total Alkalinity and Calcium Hardness. pH is an important part of testing as it measures the acidity of the water found in your pool. Bad pH levels can render chlorine ineffective in disinfecting your pool, which is obviously bad for you and everyone who swims there. Ideally, your pool should be between 7.2 and 7.8 pH to have a balanced acidity in the water. Chlorine is another important chemical in your pool as it helps kill bacteria and keep your pool free of contaminants and viruses. Green water is a common occurrence in the lifecycle of a pool. Many times it may occur because of lack of use throughout multiple seasons or it can even appear overnight during the hot nights of the Summer as algae grows and spreads throughout the water. Usually this process is caused by an imbalance or lack of chlorine in the water that fights off the growth of algae in your pool. Here’s how to get your pool back to it’s crystal clear state !   - Chlorine Shock Treatment: Adding chlorine (amount depends on the size of your pool) to your water kills the algae and should help with color and cloudiness of the pool.
