Why You Need a Pool Liner

Image
Pool liners can be a critical addition to your summer swimming plans.  If you've recently purchased a pool system or are looking into summer pool building plans, you might be a little lost on pool terminology. If you've asked, "What's a pool liner, and why do I need one?" we have the answers for you. Keep reading to learn more about why pool liners are important.  Pool liners are very useful tools that help prevent flooding and leaks: they keep the water in your pool and also add value to your pool in that they are aesthetically pleasing. They act as a barrier and also provide a soft cushion texture that is convenient if you often lean on a corner and rest your arms on the concrete during pool time. They last between 8-12 years on average, so a pool liner is a long-lasting and worthy investment if you've been losing a significant amount of water. Finally, pool liners add a more aesthetically pleasing value to your pool: this is an added bonus to its function...

7 Spring Pool Care Tips

Image
Early spring is the best time to open your pool! It's time to peel back your pool cover and get ready for summer! Because algae thrive in temperatures of 65 degrees+, March is the best month to open your pool. So, how can you take care of your pool this spring? Here are seven steps:  1. Check the pool for signs of damage.  Even if your pool was covered in the winter, it's possible that severe weather could have caused cracks or other significant wear and tear. Also, check your pool pump for damages.  Contact a repair pro  as needed. 2. Clean your pool cover  One of the main purposes of a pool cover is to keep your pool free from any contaminants and debris. That debris could still be sitting on top, so rinse with a hose, and suck up any excess water with a pool cover pump.  3. Use your pool skimmer  Once you've cleaned, removed, and safely stored your pool cover, the next step is to remove floating debris. 4. Brush your pool's walls Pool walls should b...

When Should You Close Your Pool for the Year?

Image
It's that time of year again when the nights are starting to get cooler, the days are getting shorter, and it is harder to keep the temperature of your pool up. What you may not know, however, is that it isn't time to pack up your swim gear and close down the pool for the season just yet.      One of the biggest mistakes you can make as a pool owner is closing your pool too early. This is because the chemicals that you use to help preserve your pool over the winter are not meant to get hot. If there are still hot days on the forecast then the chemicals in your pool will be consumed much earlier causing issues when you go to reopen your pool next season. Because your chemicals have run their course faster than needed your pool can be susceptible to algae growth and staining. Not to mention it can make opening your pool next year a lengthy process due to the clean up it needs.      The trick to closing your pool is waiting until the ...

Sometimes though, hot tubs can be as hard to maintain as pools! Do you know when it's time to get your hot tub serviced by The Pool Guy ? Here are some signs to look for! Algae Buildups One easy sign that it's time to get your hot tub serviced is algae buildup. There could be a couple reasons why this is happening. First, your hot tub may not be filtering and cycling water properly. On the other hand, you may just need to switch up some chemicals and help kill the algae. If you notice green water, this is a sure sign of algae buildups. Low Water Temperature When you take off the cover on a cool night with a breeze only to step into cold or lukewarm water, it can be a real downer! If you notice that your hot tub isn't heating properly or losing heat when you're in the tub, this could be a sign of a heater gone bad. Don't...

Solar Pool Covers are designed to help extend your swimming season while increasing the water temperature, preventing the water from evaporating, and helping to save money on costly pool supplies. Tips for Opening a Pool

Image

It may be time to take a dip in the pool! But don't rush into things just yet if your pool has been closed off for the winter. You'll have to do a little prep work first. Don't worry though, we're here to walk you through a few of the steps needed to reopen an inground pool.      Step #1: Check for Damage & Debris     Before you dive deep into the actual pool itself, it's best to check around the pool and survey the area for any debris. Things like leaves, overgrown trees and branches can be hazardous while also creating a big mess around your pool. If you have a deck, check that area out as well for any damage and wear and tear as to not cause any accidents. Pool equipment may have been damaged so any safety rails, ladders or diving boards/slides should be insp...

Keeping Your Hot Tub Clean

Image
If you have a pool or hot tub, you know the challenges of keeping them clean throughout the many seasons that happen each year. Even during consistent temperatures and humidity levels, your water can become dirty or full of algae, but that is preventable with consistent cleaning, which we will go over in this blog!  There are three major aspects to keeping your hot tub in good working order and those are circulation, cleaning and chemistry.  Circulation in your hot tub is very important as it ensures that your water is flowing through the filters in your pool, cleaning out the contaminants that may be found in your hot tub's water. Some hot tubs will have automatic circulation systems, but if they do not, starting your hot tub twice a day for 15 to 20 minutes will help your water stay moving and clean within your tub. Cleaning your hot tub is also very important to the health of your system. Scum buildup is common inside the tub so a weekly clean of the scum line in your wat...

Testing Your Pool Water

Image
An important part of owning your own personal pool is testing your pool water for multiple factors and chemical levels. You want to ensure that you prepared to perform each of these important tests to have the highest quality pool water possible in your pool. The four main tests that are used are pH, chlorine, Total Alkalinity and Calcium Hardness. pH is an important part of testing as it measures the acidity of the water found in your pool. Bad pH levels can render chlorine ineffective in disinfecting your pool, which is obviously bad for you and everyone who swims there. Ideally, your pool should be between 7.2 and 7.8 pH to have a balanced acidity in the water. Chlorine is another important chemical in your pool as it helps kill bacteria and keep your pool free of contaminants and viruses. Testing this will make sure that your pool is staying as clean as possible, chemically. In your pool, you should aim to have the chlorine levels at 1.0 to 2.0 ppm for the most effective disinfec...

Restoring Your Pool from Green to Clean

Image
Green water is a common occurrence in the lifecycle of a pool. Many times it may occur because of lack of use throughout multiple seasons or it can even appear overnight during the hot nights of the Summer as algae grows and spreads throughout the water. Usually this process is caused by an imbalance or lack of chlorine in the water that fights off the growth of algae in your pool. Here’s how to get your pool back to it’s crystal clear state !   - Chlorine Shock Treatment: Adding chlorine (amount depends on the size of your pool) to your water kills the algae and should help with color and cloudiness of the pool. If you used enough the water should begin to turn a lighter shade of green after shocking it. - Wait: After hitting your pool with a shock treatment you need to take time and wait with pump of your pool off. This will allow the algae to die and fall to the floor with no circulation, which could help some algae stay alive throughout the process. - ...
