Keeping Your Hot Tub Clean

If you have a pool or hot tub, you know the challenges of keeping them clean throughout the many seasons that happen each year. Even during consistent temperatures and humidity levels, your water can become dirty or full of algae, but that is preventable with consistent cleaning, which we will go over in this blog!

There are three major aspects to keeping your hot tub in good working order and those are circulation, cleaning and chemistry.

Circulation in your hot tub is very important as it ensures that your water is flowing through the filters in your pool, cleaning out the contaminants that may be found in your hot tub's water. Some hot tubs will have automatic circulation systems, but if they do not, starting your hot tub twice a day for 15 to 20 minutes will help your water stay moving and clean within your tub.

Cleaning your hot tub is also very important to the health of your system. Scum buildup is common inside the tub so a weekly clean of the scum line in your water is very important, no matter if your unit is indoors or outdoors. However, if your unit is outside you also have to be aware of various debris that you may find in your hot tub, such as leaves, branches or even animals. Along with the daily/weekly maintenance that is rather easy and not time-consuming, you should take some extra time every 2-3 months and drain your unit completely to give it a thorough cleaning. This will help ensure that your family will be enjoying a warm, clean hot tub for years to come!

Chemistry is the third important factor of keeping your hot tub clean in the long-term. We've covered testing and pool chemistry in the past so we won't go to in detail, but hot tubs should be balanced in things like pH and Alkalinity, but also be aware of using things such as shock treatment to make the chemistry just right for use.

Make sure to keep your hot tub clean for this and every season of use by keeping in mind these three factors at all times! If you need help, just ask the Pool Guy by visiting our website here.
